Is a firmware update required to run Mountain Lion if the machine is 5 years old?
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
A firmware update isn't required, but it's highly recommended to install all the updates before upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion. Also, check if your comptuer is supported > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
