Q: no appletv icon showing up on mid 2011 iMac

Software is up to date.  All requirements met.  No icon showing AppleTV on my imac. 

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

    You software may be up to date but it is the wrong one.  You need to purchase OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion to mirror, get it from the app store (it is not an update).

     

    A third party app such as airparrot or reflectorapp may help if you don't want ML.
