What model/year is your Mac?
How much RAM do you have?
And, how much empty space is left on your hard drive?

The 1 GB of RAM is the bare minimum to run Snow Leopard. That could be the cause if you are doing anything with sophisticated animation, widgets, audio editing.
I'm an occasional user. Nothing sofisticated. I just don't know what approach to take. I admit, its worse since I added Snow Leopard. My internet is very slow and I get kicked out "Safari can't find the server" too often. I have a PC I use for work and internet is fine. Is there some troubleshooting I should perform before I go adding memory?
Absolutely max out the RAM - that is not enough:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac/Intel_Core_2_Duo
(I'd think adding RAM is troubleshooting; not much runs well on 1 GB of RAM nowadays). You've got enough hard drive space.
OK, I understand.
I keep losing internet connection "Safari Can't Find Server" via airport. Most of the time I have to close Safari and reopen to get it back. This is not a problem with my PC. Both go through same Wireless network. Has this something to do with RAM?
That could be a function of the wireless router you are using. Is it Apple's?
Netgear DGN 2000
I don't believe so; what kind of connection do your have? Cable? Who is your ISP? Are your downloads slow or fast? Do you use a router or only a modem?
Also, do you regularly reset Safari? (in the drop down menu under Safari) It cleans out caches, history, etc - things that clog up the browser.
That can be a problem. Unless the router is rated for 10.6.8 compatibility with its firmware and you are using a minimum of WPA2 security, either the router can be too insecure and have outside traffic intruding on your access or the iMac may not recognize the router. The firmware will likely have to be updated on the PC side. And if you have any filtering setup on the router, that could cause problems too.
DSL through ATT
Downloads kinda slow. Slow to load web pages. The DGN is a modem router. I reset safari often. I can't confirm it is helpful .
Well, DSL can be slow; and you are presumably forced into using their equipment?
Interesting - I went to the Netgear support site for your model and was greeted with:
Wi-Fi issues with iOS 6
There have been widespread reports of wireless connection and speed problems with devices using...
on this page:
http://support.netgear.com/product/DGN2000
Don't know if that would also apply to Mac OS, but it might. Read through that entire page including the firmware updates and what they are compatible with.
OK...I know is might seem stange, but here is what I have uncovered:
1. I tried another wireless network(my sister next door) to rule out some things. The page loading was slow, but I did not experience the "safari can't find page" which I know is some conf between the router and the modem because I get the error instant on mouse click.
2. When I went to open one of the links from your source above same problem...but I found if I open in new window(not new tab) the page loads. If I just click and/or open in new tab I get an instant "safafi can't find server".
3. So...somewhere in all the noise I found a tread that suggested I change the DNS setting in network preferences to an OPEN DNS (previous it was the router). So I did and it seemed to improve the page loading dramatically and "safari can't find server" is no longer. On a hunch I went and put back the original router number for the DNS setting and to my surprise it is still improved.
Does it make any sense???
No, LOL - but, not all glitches have a logical explanation (not even an illogical one)......
Gonna add some memory to see if I can improve overall perfmance still. As for internet....the extremely slow performance is seemingly gone for now.
Thanks for help.
