trying to unregister an older ipod.. Says the serial number is already in use. How do I change this so I can use a different AppleID?

I have an Ipod touch with my email registered on Itunes. I have signed out of iTunes and reset the iPod completely. I try to sign in on my mother in laws account and then try to add the device to her account, when I do so, it says "This device is already in use on another account". How do I delete my appleids off of the ipod dso we can add the device to someone elses account.
Anybody have any input? How do I make it so I can register the serial number on my Ipod to a different account. So basically, how do I u nregister the serial number that exists with this Ipod?

But I think that no action is necessary. You really can't unregistar a device.
