Waking After sleep

When the laptop is left for some time, it sleeps ( the screen goes blank). When I press the mouse the password screen appears. Till recently, I was able to type the password and wake the machine.

Now, when I type any key it just makes a beep sound and no key appears in the edit box for the password. If I press the ESCAPE key, then stars appear in the edit box. But, do anything, the characters don't appear. Then I keep the power button pressed for some time. Switch off the machine. Start the machine again.

Any help?

1. When escape is pressed as many black dots appear in the edit box as the Esc is pressed.

2. Then when the enter is pressed the edit box just dances to show "wrong entry"

3. When CMD + r is pressed black dots appear in the edit box. Rest as 2 above.

4. When Option/alt is pressed as 3 and 2 above.

I didn't understand how to "BOOT with the CMD +r pressed or Option key pressed"

I tried pressing both the above combinations with a short press of the POWER Button.

A long press of POWER button anyway helps

Hmmm, sounds like you setup Firmware password protection in Mac OS X ...

It would block usage of all the startup keys, like C, N, T, D, CMD+s, CMD+Option+p+r, CMD +v, Option boot will show a lock, and Shift, as well as booting from anything but the Hard Drive.

If that is the case, you need to take it to Apple to have it removed.

Regarding this I called for complimentary telephonic support from Apple. Yesterday, and today they gave me appointments and sent me messages confirming the appointment, but never called.

What do I do? Whom do I contact? All the "take to service centre" addresses and phone numbers for my area (Ernakulam, Kerala, India) given at their web addresses are also invalid!!

I am at dead end with my new Apple Mac. What do I do, whom do I call?

Incidentally my problem got solved by an accidental observation. The original problem was as follows:

"The system after sleep when wakes up, does not accept any alpaha-numeric keys other than making a beep sound. And then I have to keep pressing the power button to reboot. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN AND NOT ALWAYS- Am not able to discover when this happens and when not"

I had intalled KeyMagic for Malayam keyboard. Unlike offline transliterators, where, only when the focus into the transliterator editor window, the key presses are interpreted for photnetic transliteration, in Mac KeyMagic, once I set the keyboard to KeyMagic wherever my focus is, the keys are interpreted differently. The ESC sequence changes I suppose.

So when the system goes into sleep, if the key board is selected as KeyMagic, then when it awakes, they keys are interpreted as such and does not allow. If the key board is US, then it allows the key press!!

So now I have made it a practice to switch the key board to US as soon as my work with KeyMagic is over

As simple as that!! Ooops!!

Thanks to all for the help extended.
