ApplicationsWhat exactly happens when you try to load pages? Do other Internet applications work, such as email?
-
Jan 21, 2013 8:56 AM in response to Linc Davisby happilyevolvingsoul,E-mails are showing up through MacMail. When I try to load a page, the blue loading bar loads about 1/16th of the way, and then just stops, and the little spinning circle (not the rainbow one, the one that shows a page is trying to load) just spins and spins and spins. Eventually I'll get an error message that the server where the page is located isn't responding, but the pages load on other computers, most likely indicating it's not a problem with the server?
I just tried doing a software update, but get an error message that Software Update can't connect to the update server...

ApplicationsLaunch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

I trust that this will make more sense to you than it does to me?What is this console thing? A log of all the activity that happens when your computer tries to make an action?

ApplicationsPlease change the security setting of your wireless router from "WEP" to "WPA2 Personal." If the router can't do that, you need a new one. Also see the following support articles:

Jan 21, 2013 1:07 PM in response to Linc Davisby happilyevolvingsoul,Now you're getting tricky on me!
It appears that I need to know my routers username and password... The router is many many years old. I'll see what digging I can do, but chances are I'll need a new router.Until I can contact Verizon, I'm at a standstill... but I deeply appreciate your assistance! You have been most helpful. Thank you.

ApplicationsIf the router is many years old, you should get a new one. Wireless routers get old fast.
