Upgrading RAM on Imac - can you use mismatched pairs?
A 27" mid '10 iMac comes with 2 slots of 2 gbs of memory filled, (4Gb) and 2 left open.
Can I buy a 8gb kit and have 12 gb?
Or does all the RAM have to match?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5), Mid 2010

You can put in any combination you want to. But performance is maximized if each pair is matched. Your intended setup 2x2GB + 2x4GB for a total of 12GB will be fine ... each pair is matched.

2x2gb and 2x4gb is the configuration I've got and it works perfectly. Just ensure you get RAM to the exact spec - macsales.com and crucial.com come highly recommended on here.
Thanks Martin and Paul.
