itouch not reconized

I bought an ipod touch from ebay, brand new itouch, but it was jailbroken. I was instructed to not turn off the itouch using the top power button, unfortunately, my huband did and it has not worked since then (it was working for a couple of weeks prior).

I have gone through all the diagnotic tests, my itouch will not show up as being reconized as being connected to my computer, in itunes, or will respond to any attempts to turn it off or on. All I have is an Apple symbol, I would love to be able to use it (jailbroken or not), but I'm not tech-savy enough to figure out how to reset this thing!
