Desktop turn off shortcut not staying off?

When I do shft + control + the eject button, it should turn off the screen (but keep the computer running) until I want to turn it back on.

The problem is, is that my computer will not keep the screen off. It goes for a few seconds, and then turns back on. Normal sleep is working perfectly fine, and nothing is touching the keyboard that would make it turn on again so I'm not sure what's happening.

If anyone could suggest anything that would be great, but unfortunately I can't take it in as the warrantly has expired.

Sorry for taking so long.

If you mean for sleep yes, it does. However that shuts down all the functioning of the computer (not totally completely but if I have something downloading it will stop it while it's asleep) and I want JUST the monitor off.

I don't want sleep, I just want the monitor off.

It doesn't really look there is a lot of the same repeating message, the newest is adobe stuff, but not all the same thing except for "removing observer for path: [insert thing here]"

Would it happen if my mouse is starting to run out of battery (it's wireless) and the warning light started to blink?
