hotmail and mac

Hi

I am using a mac book pro. Suddenly a month ago my hotmail stopped sending messages out ( i can still receive) it says it cant connect to the smpt ( i think server) the pop one says it works. My gmail account works and i can use my hotmail via the internet. I have tried removing it and reloading it and i am still having the same problem.
