I just purchased last fall (2012) a MacBook Pro OS X 10.8.2. How do I download ichat for this computer and
google chat - video?

iChat was replaced on OSX 10.8.2 with iMessage. Use that with the same account info.
Group video conferending is supported simlar to iChat, but its a bit difficult to find.
If you can navigate your way to the "Messages" screen then you're half-way there.
The "Messages" screen will have your buddies that you have been chatting with in the past (assuming you use the same apple account info) under iChat on the left side.
On the right hand side is the message history for each of your buddies.
In the upper right hand corner you'll see a "camera icon" for the buddy you highlighted on the left had side of the window. Click the camera icon and you will be presented with a drop down menu. Click video and it works just like iChat.
For additional people to join the conference, just click their names on the left side of the window and then click the camera icon as you did for the 1st buddy.

First, update to the latest Mountain Lion version using a "Combo" method like this:
(1) Restart Mac and then use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions.
(2) Next, download and apply the latest Combo Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1640
(3) Repair permissions again as soon as the system restarts to finish the Combo update.

Don't download anything.
Instead, use your Mac's Messages app. The Mac Messages app allows your Mac to connect with older Mac OS X's iChat and iOS devices' iMessages.

If you decide to install google chat, I suggest you repair permissions before and after installation.
