Airport Extreme - Direct TV Genie Ethernet connection not working

PLease help and please use simple terms for me as I am not the most tech savvy guy. I Recently replaced my old Netgear wireless router with a new Airport Extreme. Wireless is working great! And I made the same ethernet connections I made before and they are working good with the exception of our Direct TV Genie. I spoke with the tech support and they claim they are not compatible with apple products. I'm not sure how or why that would be possible. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

You might want to consider using an AirPort Express to "join" the existing wireless network at your home. When it does this, the Ethernet port on the Express is enabled, so you could connect a short Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express to the DTV device.

Another option would be to use a pair of Ethernet over powerline adapters to send an Ethernet signal over the existing AC wiring in your home.

Thanks, Bob. The DirecTV tech said it's a known issue but he twas told it had been resolved. I have an Airport Extreme, and as I said before, the router is really far away from the TV. Why would I mess with cables and make new holes in the wall when everything else works fine and sees the network. My iPhone, my Mac, my iPad, the tech's Samsung phone and my Sony TV all see the network. The issue is obviously with the Genie receiver. It's frustrating.
The easiest thing would probably be to get a new router, also annoying since the Airport Extreme was not cheap and it works great with everything else.

Sorry, I'm not following this. Are you saying that you want the Genie to connect to the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme?

If yes, Direct TV receivers are very particular about the type of wireless connection that they will accept. Some examples:

The name of the wireless network must be short and simple.....no more than 15-16 characters

No special characters....like an apostrophe, asterisk, dollar sign, etc......can be used in the name of the wireless network

No blank spaces in the name of the wireless network

So, if your wireless network is using a name like......Muriel's Apple Wireless Network.....the Direct TV product will never connect via wireless. Change the name of the network to something like.......murielwireless

Thanks Lucien. The same technician told me you also can no longer direct connect to an airport base station. He said the new Genie will shut down any clients if you do this. Perhaps he was just trying to get out of runing the cable.

He insists that I need to get a cheap router... plug it into my modem, then plug my airport extreme into that.

My wireless conection has been up a couple hours.. hopefully it stays up.
