IMAP email user root directory

Previously, when using an IMAP email server on a Solaris box, I would specify a user's email root directory as being in their home directory /export/home/user/INBOX/ and all email would then be stored there, as well as user created folders.

When I setup an IMAP email client for access to our Mac OSX server I'm at a loss for what to specify as the IMAP root folder/directory for a user. I get an error if I just specify INBOX. We have two Microsoft Outlook clients that refuse to connect because no root folder is specified yet all other clients (Thunderbird) don't seem to have any problems.

I can't find any reference to this in the documentation. Anyone have any information on this?

You shouldn't need to specify anything. However, did you try:
INBOX. (include the dot)
INBOX\ or INBOX/ or / or \ or .? Not sure it helps as I've given up on Outlook long time ago (except for Exchange environments), but I remember having all sorts of issues.

What version of Outlook are you using? MS Outlook has different (lots of) issues with IMAP depending on the version.

It's an Outlook issue, so the MS knowledgebase my be a better place to look for answers.
