Save a Garage Band project to mp3

I'm working with a web site that only allows me to upload mp3 files. I see that GB saves to m4a. Is there a way to save files to mp3? And is there a way to compress the files so they are smaller?

chose Export Song to Disk from the Share menu, and then choose mp3 from the Compress Using popUp menu
