My 12 year old son is saving up to purchase an apple laptop / MacBook. But making money at his age isn't that easy. So I suggested maybe looking into a used / refurbished MacBook. Does anyone know if this is something that can be purchased through Apple? If not, where can we start looking?

Be aware though that they offer different "grades" of refurbs, some are much more used than others.
ebay is very good i kow people usually dont like too do that but you can get really good deals on elcetronics
And just like Craigslist you can get seriously ripped off on eBay. There can be good deals just be very very careful and know that even then you can get hosed....it's a chance you take going that route.
agreed but look if you look for sellers with good rating and ones that have a history of computer sales it should work out very well. Craiglist is much more dangerous thier is no info really on the person or thier history at all
I buy computer stuff from ebay all the time. 2 years ago, I bought a mac mini c2d for about $150, which is still to this day a perfect media server to stream my shows and movies to my appleTV.
