Q: I notice that my iCloud quota is the max 50GB.  If I seek to downgrade this, it says my current quota is 5GB (free) – where I want to be.  I suspect this discrepancy arises from my previous large MobileMe storage.  How can I confirm this?

If you were previously a MobileMe susbscriber with extended storage, and have not paid for any extra iCloud storage, you were given complimentary extra storage on iCloud until September 2013. At that point your storage will automatically downagrade to 5GB unless you take specific steps to prevent this and pay for the extra storage.
