Hi I have an iPhone 4s which wont switch on . I went to apple and they said it needed a new battery. However to do this they must restore the phone. I have important pics and data on the phone that I want to recover. I was unable to back up my phone before it died. Is there anyway to retrieve this data. I am able to get the phone into dfu mode

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.0.1

Find a third-party repair shop to replace the battery...this will void all warranty/support, but your data will be intact. Apple, for security reasons, erases all devices when serviced like this.

If you backup to cloud, this method will help you.

The difficulty in restoring iCloud data from a back up is that the back up is older than the current version on iCloud and anything that is restored gets removed again when an iCloud sync occurs.

    1. Ensure the device is connected to your local network.

    2. Start the restore from iCloud back up.

    3. Allow the devices settings to restore (watch for the confirmation of completion).

    4. As the apps begin to restore pull the connection to your router WAN port (the one that goes to the telephone point).

    5. Wait for the time out confirmation.

    6. Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn off contact syncing (keep contacts when prompted).

Reconnect the router to the internet and let the restore process complete.

    7. Delete any iCloud contacts from iCloud.com on a computer.

Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn on contact syncing (merge contacts when prompted).

I had the same problem today when I reset my computer system. I found a program called iPhone Data Recovery for Mac that seemed to have helped. And it was free. .U can find it here on the CNET site:

Do not restore with iTunes again. After that, you may check your iTunes backup first. If there is more than one backup available, you can select a previous backup. If you can find the right backup, you can recover lost data from iPhone backup.

You can recover from an old backup, but it will recover everything in that backup; there's no way to selectively recover lost data from iPhone 4S. Which is a good reason to back up daily.

If you back up to your computer connect the phone to your computer, right click on it in iTunes, and choose "restore from backup". If you back up to iCloud go to Settings/General/Reset - Erase All Content and Settings. You will then be asked if you want to restore from the iCloud backup.

Do remember to backup your iPhone data timely:

Whatever your iphone was broken or even dead, it is possible to restore your lost data. All the lost data are still in your phone actually. ******* can help you in this case.

Hi, dear, don't worry. Have you tried iPhone Data Recovery? I once used it to recover deleted photos from my iPhone 4 when my iPhone got wet in the bathroom and I can't find any data in it. It seems able to recover various types of data in three ways. Maybe you can also get help from it. Good luck to you.

as you didn't back up your iPhone with iTunes, you may try iPhone data recovery software to scan your iPhone or iCloud backup so as to recover deleted photos from iPhone.
