iPhone 5 won't ring, only vibrate

My iPhone 5 is only 3 weeks old and up till now working perfectly. Tonight it has decided not to ring, only vibrate. The silent switch is off and the volume level is set to the maximum level. Any suggestions?

have you tried restarting your phone? if that didn't work have you tried holding the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time until the apple logo appears?

This has happened again after moving it from 'silent' to normal -- it only vibrates, it won't ring.

I have done this numerous times (from silent to normal) but now it is the same problem that I posted on 22/1/2013.

The trouble is I don't know that it is only going to vibrate so I miss hearing messages come through.

Should this now be a 'warranty' issue.?

Hi Everyone,

I suffered with this annoying problem until I stumbled upon these solutions:

1) restart your phone from time to time to purge glitches.

2) make sure the mute button (upper, left side of phone, above volume buttons) is off.
if you see orange, it is on.
sometimes it needs to be switched back & forth (once or twice) to sit properly.

3) go to your "general settings" icon

3rd set of boxes down from the top: "Sounds" (hit the right arrow)

2nd set of boxes down from the top: "Ringer and Alerts" (slide to right, to comfortable ringer level)

All done!

Remember: sometimes when I switch to mute & then back to ringer, I have seen my "Ringer and Alerts" slider reset to silent (all by itself)!!! when this happens, go to #3 above & all will be well!

My wife had the same problem for months on her iPhone 5S and I researched tons of websites and tried EVERYTHING to fix it, including updating the OS. The problem was the LifeProof protective case which has a cover over the ring / silent switch on the side. I think that over time the design of this cover slowly moves the switch back to the "Ringer Off" position, or that it moves the Ringer switch to a middle "limbo" position that is neither on nor off. Once I moved it decidedly to the "On" position, the phone would ring again. Let me know if this works for you.
