Lost the majportiy of my photos in the upgrade, hate this! Where to get help?

I have just been prompted to upgrade my iphoto in order to activate the streaming portion of my photos to my Apple TV after an upgrade. It appeared I coupld not proceed without the upgrade, I did it and now have lost the majority of my photos. I have lost all photos from 2009 to date? WTH?!
