How much gb is windows support software from apple(bootcamp)

Using BootCamp Assistant 4.0.4 on a Lion 10.7.5 system, the full download took a tad under 25 minutes on a link running at 10.5 Mbps as per SpeedTest.net. It created a WindowsSupport folder of near 700MB's worth of files on the USB thumbdrive I put for the task. The folder contains the following (click to zoom):

Are you refering to Step 1 in the BootCamp Assistant, when you download the Windows drivers from Appler?

That is a longstanding point of contention. Since all can remember, it takes ages for what it is, has always been that way and nobody can determine why. No recourse except a family-sized chill pill to keep the calm while you wait. 😟

That's the maddening part of all. In the end you discover that you waited for ages for a measly bunch of files that barely make a dent on a regular CD.

Unfortunately, I don't have the last one I burned at hand, it's back home, but I clearly remember it was a thin band of data on the disk. Don't think it got to 80 MB at the most.

I did it at home, with a 5Mbps downlink that usually operates around 3.5-4 Mbps. It took over an hour to complete.

In comparison, I've downloaded the full 4.5GB Mountain Lion installer and that completed in under 4 hours.

Edit: just started a drivers' download right now at work. We have a blazing fast 1Gbps link thru Cogent, so any sluggishness will be entirely Apple's fault. Five minutes into the process, I see just about 20% advance on the progress bar and appears to be currently stalled, no movement at all. Will update when it finishes.
