iTunes and external hard drive

I recently had to replace my hard drive on my macbook pro.

Everything was backed up to an external hard drive.

How do I restore my macbook back to the way it was before it crashed, including my iTunes? I have everything on the external hard drive, I just do not know how to restore the laptop itself.
