does my PB need defragmentation

Hi,

Do I need to defrag the HD on my PB Pro? If no why? If yes how?

Thanks

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2009), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

OS X file system doesn't need it.

Most Mac users don't need to defrag because of the way OS X manages the files. You might need to defrag if you do professional-level audio/video work or other work that routinely reads and writes very very large files. For that there are utilities like iDefrag. But chances are you don't need to waste time and shorten disk life by having a defrag utility run the disk hard and hot for hours.

Also, if your internal disk is solid state (SSD), you don't want to run any defrag software, you'll definitely shorten the life of that drive.
