OSX 10.8 Failed SMB connection 2008 R2

I'm currently running a network with 1 server running Windows 2008 R2 as dc/fileserver. One share with correct Share/NTFS rights setup and everything works fine from Windows machines. When trying to connect to this share (or even the server itself without share defined) things go bad from one particular machine with OSX 10.8.2 - it just can't seem to connect, the login prompt shakes and gives you another try. The eventlog on the server shows incorrect username or password, no matter what account I pick (even domain admin). Same credentials work on Windows machines and even on another OSX machine with 10.7.5 installed. On the machine running 10.8.2 it always worked until it updated. I found a few registry and group policy settings on the web but none seem to work (they all sourced from SBS 2008 articles tho).

- Neither of the macbooks are part of the active directory (this is no option either)

- Doesnt matter what I fill in at smb:// - could be as little as smb://ip.ip.ip.ip or even the full length containing domain/username/password in the syntax.

- Server is running 2008 R2 Enterprise

Any ideas? If I can't find a solution I'm gonna try and rollback to 10.7 worst case scenario..

I have the same set up here and since upgrading to ML, I need to put in the complete pathway to the folder I want to connect to. Bythis I mean with SL I entered <smb://172.16.0.2> and then selected the drive I wanted. Since ML (might have been Lion - can't remeber) I now need to enter <smb://172.16.0.2/Saved_Work> to access the Saved Work folder on the server. Running 2008 R2 as well.

*I can use the server name as well e.g. ris-dc2

Just thought I'd post this in case it helps someone. This could be the same problem we have (had) here so try this:

When it asks for name and password put this in the name field: sharename\name

So if the share is called "WWW" and your login name is "Bob" you'd put "www\Bob" in the name field and then normal password in the password field.

Works perfectly for us. I cant remember when it started 10.7 or 10.8 but this was the only solution. Hope it helps someone else!
