iChat - can't find! Concern?

Hi guys! So I just got a brand new macbook pro today, & I can't find iChat on the starter applications (only messages, which doesn't work for gmail). I had iChat on my old laptop, which was running the snow leopard software instead. How come? Is it impossible to get iChat on the newer MacBook Pros now? Or does it just not start out with it?

MacBook Pro, iOS 6.0.2

Hi,

Messages is the App.

It is iChat+ (The plus bit being the iMessages Account that can use an Apple ID with iPhones and iPads).

It can use a GoogleTalk ID.

My Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts with Buddy lists in the background (including the Gmail one)
