Q: Upgrading eMac to OSX 10.5 - Problems!

I have an eMac which is running OSX 10.4.11. I need to upgrade it to OSX 10.5 in order to run some new software. When I made the upgrade, my eMac seemed to work except that the spinning pinwheel appeared and won't go away. I can click on items in the dock but I can't do anything else. What did I do wrong in my installation?

eMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

It show Powermac 4,4 and it take 40 min to copy a 1 Gb file from a usb.

    So I think it's usb 1.00

Does this early model of Emac  have a fatal flow in its logic board?

I just bought 2 Pcs of 512Mb of sdRam from eBay.

But now only 1 pcs of 512MB SDRAM ram is working, if I install the other one it's showing slot

    Empty.

    Can any one help?

    So now it is running 512 + 256 = 768 Mb SdRam

    NEED URGENT HELP..........

I have manage to buy anther 512MB SDRAM PC133BUS and install it on my eMac but after i installing that, first time it showed 1 GB SDRAM after one day it is showing 768MB SDRAM now.

And the old one 512 SDRAM as 256 MD SDRAM. How can it be possible?

I have reinstall Mac os 10.5.6 but still it is showing 768 SDRAM.

    Picture 1.png

I have even change the slot with the old 512 MB to the new 512MB SDRAM but the old 512MB is still showing 256MB Ram.

Is this a RAM problem or the Emac can not handle 1 GB SDARM.

Anther problem is that when the Emac showed 1 GB SDRAM it get hang 3-4 in 1 day.

When you switched slots did the size move with the slots?

Is it Mac compatible RAM or PC RAM?

No the size didnt move with the slots but move with the old 512MB RAM.

But when i was using the old 512 MB Ram with 256MB Ram, that time it was working fine with total capacity 768MB SDRAM.

Now when i install a new 512MB Ram, the old ram is showing 256MB.

I don't know it is a PC or Mac ram but both 512MB SDRAM PC133 and 168-Pin

Try just the old 512 MB stick in each slot & see if it reports 512 without the new one installed, if so I believe the new one is stacked PC RAM, not Mac compatible.

Yes the old 512Mb ram alone showed 512 in both slot without the new 512 Mb SDRAM...

But the old only was also bought from the local market and I think it is also Pc Ram because

The seller can't say the difference...

Do u advice I buy a anather 512Mb SdRam and exchange it with the old one?

Because when I use old 512Mb with + 256mb, that time it was not fast enough

But now with the 512mb new with 512Mb it is faster, even with the same 768Mb sdRam.

    I am very confused now.

    Anybody please help.

I would think it best & fastest to get Mac certified RAM in both slots, but I don't fully understand these 2 klines...

Because when I use old 512Mb with + 256mb, that time it was not fast enough

But now with the 512mb new with 512Mb it is faster, even with the same 768Mb sdRam.

    Thanks for the help...

I have replace the old 512MB ram which was showing 256 with a new 512MB RAM.

And now it is showing full 1 GB of SDRAM.

But with 1 GB SDRAM and MAc os 10.5.6 thee CPU get get busy and it shows down very much when i use

    fourtenfox, facebook, youtube & etc.

Do i need to go back to OS 10.4?

Can i use my Espon L200 in 10.4?

Or how can i make the Emac fast in 10.5.6?

Please share you experience Emac owners.....Picture 4.png

Any older Mac is going to be slow at times on today's bloated Internet, have you not updated to 10.5.8 yet?

10.4.11 should be faster on an eMac than 10.5.x since 10.5.x was designed for far more powerful Video cards.

Even on my Quad G5/10 GB RAM/NVIDIA GeForce 7800GT/256 MB VRAM, 10.5.8 is slower than 10.4.11 by a little bit.

    Hi,

I think i need to downgrade to tiger again.

But are you sure that the druver you suggested for Espon L210 will work in Espon L200?

Or their is any that away in which i can run my Espon L200 in 10.4.11?

    Please help....

I can't be sure as I don't have that printer to test, but feel strongly a different Epson driver will work & that one seems the most likely one.
