Q: How do I know if the thunderbolt is transferring the info or if the wifi is?

My question is how do you know which is transferring the data from the pc to Mac? In other words here are the steps I used.

1. Turned on pc connected external hard drive and turned on MacBook Air

2.  Made sure that both computers are using Migration assistant

3. Started plugged in Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter to both computers

4. Started Migration assistant on both.

I'm only downloading around 36Gb of info, but estimated time to do so over 7 hours? Is that normal? Is that slow? So my question is how do I know if thunderbolt is transferring the info or if its over the WiFi connection.

Remember that you are using a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter, so you get the Ethernet speed, not the Thunderbolt speed. Wi-Fi and Ethernet are similar, but Ethernet is a bit faster, although the restore takes a lot on both cases. You just have to wait because Ethernet and Wi-Fi transfers are very slow
