Sony SA-NS 410 wireless speaker set-up

Can´t find a way to set up my Sony SA-NS410 wireless speaker to my Apple Airport express Wi-Fi network. Running iMac OS X 10.8.2. Has anyone else succeeded? The Sony manual is useless!

OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Happy to see that it works for you. I found this site (http://www.sony-asia.com/support/faq/506229), followed it very carefully, step by step but still it´s not working. Of course I tried over and over again. Is this the same procedure you used?

Manual setup using an Access Point Scan:

NOTE: Write down the Wireless network Name (SSID) and the Security Key (WEP or WPA) prior to following these steps.

  1. Connect the AC adaptor to the speaker.
  2. Connect the speaker to the computer.
  3. Select Sony_Wireless_Audio_Setup from the network list.
    NOTES:
    - If using a Apple Mac OS, click the network icon on the top of the desktop screen.
    - If using a Windows OS, click the network icon on the Start bar.
  4. Access the Sony network Device Setting screen.
    - If using a Apple Mac OS, start the Safari® Web browser, and select Bonjour under Bookmarks . Then select the speaker.
    - If using a Windows OS, start an Internet browser and enter http://192.168.100.1 in the address field.
  5. Select the desired language from the Language Setup screen.
  6. Select network Settings.
  7. Select the appropriate SSID and enter the Security Key .
  8. Select Apply .
  9. Select OK .
  10. Reconnect the computer to your network.

Can´t get it working! I tried both with cable connection speaker-iMac and without but nope! When I come to step 6 my Wi-Fi-network didn´t appear in the dialog box, just a batch of numbers and letters (didnt corrspond to any settings in my net) and the dialogbox didn´t allowed me fill in the proper name of my Wireless net. Can´t understand what I´m doing wrong!

I had set up 3 Sony SA-NS-310, the smaller ones than your speaker. Setup via Mac or PC did not work as expected, so i searched via Google and found a tip that the setup with Bonjour over Safari would help. And it did.

Before you can use Bonjour in Safari (Mac OS X 10.8.2), you have to enable it in the Safari settings. Enable all Bonjour settings under Favorites.

All my 3 speakers are working without any problems.

Regards.

Can't get it working either using Sony SA-NS310 and 410.... have tried every possible way, used all methods, PIN, WPS, whatever, it only works when plugged directly into Time Capsule with LAN cable.

I have Time Capsule 1st generation, and Mac OS.X Mountain Lion 10.8.3.

Have tried also to disconnect the Intego Virus barrier and firewall but to no use and help.

It MUST be possible..... please.. let me know how...

I've been trying to do this for a few weeks and just got it to work thanks to jscholtysik.

- activated all the bonjour tabs on safari preferences.

- clicked the drop down menu on the bonjour tab on safari (on the links bar).

- clicked on each speaker and activated correct language (this may link the speaker?)

- on itunes the Airplay function now has a "single" and "multiple" speaker tab.

- ticked both my speakers and they both play.

I was able to correct this SA-NS410 connection issue after several weeks of frustation. Using the NS Setup App on my iPhone, I could setup and generate the test tone provided by the app, but when I would try to connect using iTunes from my Mac, or from the Music app on my iPhone, the SA-NS410 would not be available in the AirPlay selection list.

A blog post by Poppa Gadget on the SA-NS410 helped me solve the problem. Here's what he had to say:

"It turns out that despite the User Guide mentioning a WEP security key clearly in the "Setting Up for a Wireless Network" section, WEP is not supported. Simply changing my network to use WPA-PSK has fixed the problem and the speaker is now working as it should."

I have an Airport Extreme wireless router - so I opened the excellent Airport Utility (Go -> Utilities -> Airport Utility), double-clicked on my Airport Extreme, clicked the Edit button, selected the Wireless tab and determined that my Wireless Security was set to WPA2. Apparently that's not supported either. By changing the Wireless Security to WPA/WPA2 Personal, the SA-NS410 sprang to life and is working perfectly.

Wireless Security settings may be the root problem for others who have experienced this frustrating behavior with their SA-NS410. I really like the product's performance - but the finicky setup leaves much to be desired.

Hope this helps!
