hi thanks for your reply. No HP update is not an issue. i never installed any HP update
hi, installed easyfind app but couldnt find the app.
I posted a few days ago, when I replace iMac with hard drive clone. It disappeared until last and came back the annoying App Store notice for ubikreader which I don't have it. I think this is apples bugs. But again my back up clone two days ago . Also iBook air did not show this update neither other thee iBooks.
Some how only for desk top iMac . Very strange, and seems hunting iMac until I purchase this app.
Hi. Apple. Store, please do something ...
I do wish someone could tell us how to get rid of this pesky app.
UbikReader is not located anywhere on my HDD yet it is still coming up as an update in the appstore.
I have performed everything from reindexing my hard drive to using Appcleaner to no avail. I even tried other cleaning apps like CCleaner and CleanMyMac without success.
Please if anyone has a fix do let us all know. It is frustrating.
I too am having the same issue with the same email address and can absolutely confirm I have never instaleld UBIK PDF Reader. This is very strange and nobody seems to have a solution. I cannot even form a hypothesis of how this could appear on my machine.
I am the same. Tried almost every way to find out why and get rid of this annoying update notice from App Store, but nothing seems stop them to sending the ubikreader notice. I was wondering that any Apple tech are seeing this POST?
doesn't seem they don't really care. No wonder WHY people started to questioning about the Apple that seems losing the fight against The Korean smart phone competitor....
Sine apple tech seems not doing anything...I am quite disappointed.
i just purchased and activated the macbook on 26th january and this update bug popped up on the very next day. i didnt installed any app from app store but this update was already there from the start. Had i been using the mac for some time it could have been understandable that i mistakenly visited some site.
It seems like ubikiReader (either the developers or together with Apple store) is try forcing us to buy the app.
This smell like fishing virus. But I have no idea how and when they came into my iMac.
Hello Yuki,
Since we discussed this problem earlier in the thread several others have joined it and even started new threads. Oddly, no-one seems to have searched through Google as I recommended, or commented on the large number of entries there.
From those entries it may be possible to find a clue as to where they may have picked up the infection (for loss of a better word) as there are mentions of Bit torrent, Pinterest, iTunes, the App store and multiple others. As I also said, we here cannot imagine where any particular person has surfed.
Not so long ago it was discovered that the notorious MacKeeper was being picked up unknowingly and I am sure some of the senior contributors here are watching with interest. Hopefully they will come up with some ideas. Meanwhile, later today, I shall be sending some feedback to Apple about this.
The problem here is actually quite simple. Someone (this peter.chmel@chello.at) has stolen an App Store app by using a certificate extracted from ubikReader and inserting that in another app. He has then uploaded that app somewhere, and everyone else here suffering from the problem has illegally downloaded it.
To solve the problem, delete the stolen software from your hard drive.
Hello Thomas,
I knew someone knowledgeable would take an interest; thank you. So people will need to remember which apps they have downloaded since they first came across this Ubikreader nuisance in order to isolate the cause. And we have to hope the perpetrator has not infected a string of apps in this way, yes?

Well, note that it's inaccurate to say "infected." This isn't a virus or anything along those lines. This is someone who used a fairly well-known trick to steal software and then uploaded that stolen software to a place where others could illegally download it for free. This is software piracy, not a malware issue. And everyone posting here to say they're having the same problem has outed themselves as guilty of software piracy. Hope Apple's not watching! 😁
Thanks Thomas,
So my comment that we here, would have no idea where people had been surfing was in fact a pointer to this illegal downloading.
*** Hope Apple's not watching! 😁 *** you wrote. Oh dear, and I've just sent the feedback I promised. 😀
Lol!
I am not going to speak for everyone in terms of piracy but nothing on my mac is pirated and every app is paid for. I do not even have that many, I'm an advanced user and have spent a few hours with some friends trying to figure this out to no avail. The only thing that could be fishy is a mac legion purchase I made in December with bundled apps but there was nothing strange that I could spot as a few of my coworkers purchased the same package. I have already contacted Apple about this issue last week but have yet to receive a response. I hope Apple IS watching, we need some help!
