Unlocked iPhone for trips to other countries

Hi there - I am from Canada and a Rogers customer. I recently unlocked my old iphone 4 so I can take it on a trip to Costa Rica. The unlocking process has wiped out all the information from my phone. My questions is this: I want to basically be able to use my phone in Costa Rica with a new sim card and plan of a local carrier. But I also want to have all the same apps I currently have. If I do a restore from backup before getting my new sim card will this relock my iphone? or if i go down to costa rica and get a new sim card what will my phone look like when its reactivated? will it be the standard apps?

If you had it legitimately unlocked by Rogers, then it will remain unlocked.

If you took some other route and hacked or jailbroke the phone, all bets are off.

Thanks - Rogers unlocked it - but once unlocked I wanted to do a restore. The question is if I do a restore am I relocking my phone?

No. If officially unlocked, it will remain unlocked...forever.

Thanks but how do i confirm this 100% - i dont want to show up at the costa rica airport with a locked phone

If the phone has been officially unlocked by your carrier, then no, IT WILL REMAIN UNLOCKED.

You said you had Rogers authorize the unlock, & since they are the only one's that can do so, why do you think there's a problem? Put another sim from a different carrier in your phone...you shouldn't have any errors. You can always call AppleCare in Canada to confirm the unlock, but you'll pay for the call.
