Q: MacBook Pro Retina Fan Issues

I think it happens randomly.

Yesterday I had 2 fans spikes in 5 minutes and I wasn't doing anything with the computer.

A day before, It was when I watched a movie with Airplay. The fans just skipes up for a minute.

But it happens 4 of the 5 times when I'm playing a apple lossless audio file in iTunes, so there must be something that triggers it?

Just got the problem right now and the SSD temperature sensor was still displaying something and I have no drop of datas in the history.

Hi all I have had the same problem on four 2013 rMBP so far but not the 2012 one that I unfortunatly exchanged. Been through so many attempts trying to resolve the problem between myself and the apple store. Now I'm just awaiting with the money on gift card for this issue to get addressed.

This is incorrect, 8% have the problems, 7% don't have the problems(i guess a lot of people did not noticed them) and the rest wanted to see the results, so more than 50% have the problems!

57% to be precise. I made a syntax error in my post.

I have just got a 2013 version and this by far the worst my others which were both 2012 only made the fan noise randomly.  This 2013 version puts the fans on full blast even when copying files to the desktop.  This is just by far a disgrace on Apples part.  I am now stuck as I don't want to return another one but feel Apple is leaving me no choice.

Has anyone else had any luck getting any comment from Apple?

I have the feeling that the fans won't spikes up from a fresh boot. It's only when your Macbook is going on sleep mode and wake on that it will later have the issue with the fans.

Could make sense because the SMC manage also the sleep mode.

Could you do some tests? Means never put your MBP on sleep mode and tell me if you will still have the issue?

I still have it, even after a clean install and never shut it down or sleep mode, so that isn't the problem.

I also still get the fan skikes after clean install and clean bootup.

And all the resets, visits and calls I guess?

I think it's just waiting till the update 10.8.3, it would come soon, I read a week ago the last beta of the update was released with no known issues.

I already heard that the 10.8.3 doesn't solve the problem.

I did not have any fan spikes today. I don't know why.

I had almost the same problem, so I tried to turn off "Automatic graphics switching" and everything is working well again. May be an interesting thing to check.

I already tried and nothing changed...
