Mar 11, 2013 7:55 AM in response to jamezmbpby katacalor,As promised, German media has picked up on the topic as well:
This now seems to be a on several news provision channels and is, in consequence, becoming a problem Apple cannot ignore any longer. If I'd be in their position, I'd rather speed up a bit in order to avoid the bad reputation for Sandisk. Currently every news channel communicates that it's most probably about the Sandisk SSD (even though not proven yet) ...

Mar 11, 2013 8:55 AM in response to griljby mohanfromajax, have you guys seen any image rettention or fan issues with the 13" retina i7 processors with the 512 GB SSD?
I have the fan issues with the 15 2013 retina so i returned it and gone to an i7 air with 512 gb ssd... i miss the retina screen and would like to consider the 13 inch retina if no one has seen any issues...not sure if there are any long term issues with these retina laptops...
would like to hear your thoughts...

Mar 11, 2013 9:08 AM in response to mohanfromajaxby TheKIV,Lets wait for Apple's official reply about fan issue. As for image rettention - try to find rMBP with Samsung display (search in google how to check display manufacturer).

Mar 11, 2013 9:44 AM in response to jamezmbpby robbizzle,I'm thinking of buying the new 2013 13 inch MacBook Pro retina 2.6ghz, can someone tell me whether this cooling fan issue is restricted to the larger models?
-
Mar 11, 2013 11:13 AM in response to robbizzleby nonchalance,They are probably using the same sandisk drives, which means they would also be affected.
-
Mar 11, 2013 11:19 AM in response to nonchalanceby Andydigital,I've read every post in this discussion, all 32 pages and I do not remember even one person with a 13" rMBP saying they had this same problem. The firmware is different between models so its not that surprising that not all models with Sandisk SSD's are effected.

Mar 11, 2013 12:06 PM in response to jamezmbpby Alex in devon,Having suffered from the fan issue on my rMBP, I am now slightly concerned that, according to iStats, my cpu die temperature is at 101 degrees, and other than this one window, no other activity on the computer Left fan spinning at 3700, right fan at about 3500

Mar 11, 2013 12:45 PM in response to Andydigitalby DougsPlace,Now I may be happily relieved; i thought the 13" MBPr's were reporting the same issue. I have held off on purchasing a 13" MBPr since last week thinking they had same issue.
Is there anyone with a 13" MBPr experiencing this issue?

Mar 11, 2013 12:35 PM in response to DougsPlaceby peppie55,And the normal 15 and 13 inch models with ssd?

Mar 11, 2013 12:56 PM in response to jamezmbpby nathanodor,I have a 15" Macbook Pro Retina purchased in July 2012 with a SM512E (Samsung), 2.6 i7, 16 GB memory, and can say that I have had similar issues since around January. It could have started sooner but I really only remember it being noticeably obnoxious in January.
It doesn't seem to be the same in that the fans don't just randomly turn on and then off after about a minute. However, they will fire up during tasks that you wouldn't expect them to. I'll be scrolling through some pictures in iPhoto, scrolling through various websites, or watching a video on YouTube or in iTunes and the fans will fire up too full speed and continue until I end the task. I've also noticed it with a website open that has an obnoxious advertisement even with no scrolling. It seems rediculous to me that they would need to constantly run at full speed during these small tasks.
I can say for sure that this did not happen when I first got the laptop for at least several months. I did have the screen replaced (not the actual laptop) for image retention issues in September or October and initially thought that maybe they changed something that created the fan issue but I am now doubting that they are related.
I have no fan or temperature monitoring software but will download something soon to monitor this.
