Mar 14, 2013 4:22 AM in response to jamezmbpby SmokeyJoe75,Same for me, macbook retina 15 inch bought in dez. 2012, sandisk ssd, and i have the fan issue.
I think the problem is the ssd from samsung, so apple do your work an fix the problem or swap all the ssd disks from sandisk with a 756 one from samsung for free ;-)

Mar 14, 2013 4:34 AM in response to -ailand-by Andydigital,I don't understand why you are saying that you are waiting for an exchange, it seems clear now that Apple has moved over to exclusively using SanDisk rather than Samsung SSD's in the 256 and 512Gb capacity. It is fairly apparent that all SanDisk drives are effected even those fitted to late 2012 rMBP's. So waiting to swap your MacBook is pointless. You must have seen the numerous posts by people saying their SanDisk equipped replacement laptops exhibited exactly the same issue, a couple of people have even received 3 or more replacements and still had the problem.
At this time there are only a limited number of choices if you have this problem:
1. Give the Laptop back and get a refund.
2. Put up with the issue and wait for a future firmware fix, if it's possible!
3. Get Apple to source you a replacement Samsung SSD in the same size as you have now, which is probably not likely to happen due to Apple and Samsung wanting to limit their business with one another. Also Apple is probably never likely to admit that this is a fix anyway.
4. Upgrade to a 768Gb SSD (hopefully its a Samsung, otherwise the odds of it happening again dont look good), but why should we have to pay another £320 to fix a faulty product? I'm not even sure if Apple would allow this as an option.

Mar 14, 2013 4:38 AM in response to Andydigitalby -ailand-,I know that is pointless but some days ago I went to genius bar and they told me that they swap my machine.
I have nothing to do now, only wait the new one.

Mar 14, 2013 4:52 AM in response to wirelessmacbookproby K0MP0,I have now received my replacement and can now confirm that the issue is still present in this. I will wait until the 14 days period is nearly up and decide what to do, as I hope there to be some sort of fix released by then. I did speak to apple care and the advisor did inform me that Apple are definitely aware of this problem but could not give any timescale.
Just to clarify, this is a sandisk 256GB, 2.4Ghz, 16GB RAM model. The only benefit really of replacing the machine, it seems is getting more time to decide whether to get a refund or not....

That command does NOT work on the retina 13" to find the manufacturer of the display.

Mar 14, 2013 6:36 AM in response to SheikhandBakeby njnmilne,I have the fan issue on a 1 week old mbpr 15"
I called apple in The Netherlands and they said it is a known issue. So if it is known here by apple it must be known worldwide. This means apple is lying to customers in certain countries from what I have read on this thread. Not good.
I was advised to return the product as I am within the 2 week long returns period.
This is really apallingly bad for what should be the best laptop on the market. Thumbs down for Apple.
I will return the laptop, get a full refund and buy a Samsung laptop for 1/2 the price.

Mar 14, 2013 6:50 AM in response to jamezmbpby Zulu1950,Well. Just found out about this MBPr problem this morning, after ordering 15" 512 SSD 16gb memory model last Friday. It shipped from China yesterday............. I may not even open it. I have that sinking feeling. I'm not going to listen to fan blowing for no reason.

Mar 14, 2013 6:57 AM in response to TheKIVby nonchalance,Did you get it in december 2012 or in january/early february 2013? It's suspected that apple switched to the sandisk drives before the mid-februaury refresh

To whom is your question directed? I got my retina 13 yesterday and ordered it Sunday; it is post-refresh, but still has the Samsung SSD.
