Q: MacBook Pro Retina Fan Issues

Hi,

I bought a macBook Pro Retina just under a month ago, and have been experiencing some issues with the fan speeds.

I can be just browsing the web or checking emails or playing music through iTunes, and the fans will spin up to full speed for a minute or so, and then return to normal.

I have reset the SMC, the PRAM and repaired the Disk and Disk Permissions, with no luck, I've also tried a full format and reinstall with no luck either.

I have seen that others have been experiencing similar issues, and wanted to get some advice on where I can go from here.

Attached below is a Screen Grab of my temps and fan speeds. The fans were at normal speed for a few minutes, then went up to a high speed, back down and then back up again, and kept repeating.

I did a reboot, did the test with the Daybreak song to confirm the issue, and yes it was still there. Then I ran the update (had to download it from the support site since it didn't appear in App Store) and after a reboot it redid the test. Now there's NO issue...

Exciting stuff :-)

I can confirm that the issue is away on the mid 2012 MBPr

It seems to resolve the issue for me too. No more fan issue while using Mail. \o/

What about the 13inch.... The issue is very widespread on that model and no sign of an upgrade?????

Please read

Will This smc Update also fix the issue
With the whinning sound When the internal grafic Card
Is enabled?

I have a Early 2013 macbook

And it has a Strange whining Noise sometines

When you change brightness or only use the discrete grafic will help

But i dont think that is a Solution

Also can it get worser over Time?

Anyone with the Same Problem here??

i just picked up a 13 mbpr i7 500gb ssd....so far so good. one odd thing i noticed is that the osx top menu bar when i am installing or in a application dissapears

when i then click on the desktop it appears...

has anyone had this issue?

I had the same problem with the basic installation. Just do the OSX updates from the App Store and the problem will disappear. Good luck.

I've downloaded the SMC update from Apple and when I run it, it says "Alert. This software is not supported on your system."

I'm on a 15" 2013 rMBP 2.8 GHz i7, OS X 10.8.3

Fan issue fixed.
But I still get 103°C with fan@max speed when rendering in Cinebench...

Normal?

I can confirm that the crazy fan issue is now fixed after applying the SMC update. thank you apple.

I am now Happy with my early 2013 15" rMBP 2.4/8/256GB Sandisk.
