Feb 27, 2013 11:03 AM in response to Oyinko2by peppie55,When was that update released? because this problem is now just 1 week in full attention. And I heard that update was 2 weeks ago?

Feb 27, 2013 11:11 AM in response to peppie55by Oyinko2,It was released early February. But that's probably the build we will receive on the computer when they will release 10.8.3
Anyway, I think it's related to the SMC, that's why we need more an SMC update rather than a OSX Update.

Feb 27, 2013 11:12 AM in response to jamezmbpby D.eclectic,Hey all!
Brand new 15" MBPr … when order was placed it was for the 2.3GHz …… but I was afforded the new upgraded version with the 2.4GHz.
So 15" MBPr 2.4GHz and 16GB RAM
OSX 10.8.2
During routine task …… browsin the web (FB, bank, nothin serious) the fans will rev to full speed for about a min. Check activity monitor and NOTHING is taking up the CPU at even more than 20%
However playing a video game (Counter Strike Global Offensive) - fans never rev up.
I've reset SMC and issue persist
I've ran the FULL Apple Hardware Test and no errors found.
Seems like a software bug in the OS but so far I haven't been able to resolve this msyelf

Feb 27, 2013 11:30 AM in response to peppie55by Oyinko2,It's because you are already running the last version of the SMC firmware.

Feb 27, 2013 1:14 PM in response to jeffrosunby Helm of Obedience,Had my 15" Retina for 5 days now. I was very annoyed by the random fan spikes, but then noticed it only happened when I was running a torrent program. When the torrent program's not running, I don't get fan spikes at all. Still odd because it's not like the tempurature is crazy high while the torrent program's running. I'm using iStat Menus 4 for tempurature readings.
I have not copied any large files yet, so maybe I'll try that later today.
I was so happy when I found out I got one with a non-defective Samsung screen. And now this problem...very tempted to just take advantage of the 14 day refund policy and buy a Windows laptop instead.

Feb 27, 2013 1:55 PM in response to jamezmbpby jeffrosun,I can confirm since not having torrent programs running, my issue has been resolved. I used to get fan spikes every 45~ minutes.
Since I got rid of transmission, I have not notice any unusual activity with the machine at all - even when transferring large amounts of data/playing lossless files, or games etc.
I dont understand how a program that using almost no cpu or gpu usage causes such major spikes - possible a wifi card issue
