apple tv missing from itunes

hi, I’ve got an apple tv generation 1 which has been working fine. Under “edit”/“preferences” in itunes i selected the apple tv but then inadvertently highlighted the "remove apple tv" option. This has of course removed my apple tv from the preferences option but can anyone please advise how I get it back?

Welcome to the Apple Community..

Navigate to Settings > Computers > Your Library on the Apple TV, you may be told you will lose all synced content, but you can sync it back afterwards, you won't lose any purchased content that has yet to be transferred. Then select Settings > Computers > Connect To iTunes, note the passcode that appears on screen, click on the device in iTunes and enter the passcode when prompted.

hey winston, thanks for the prompt reply. I get the pascode up ok on the apple tv but in itunes the Apple tv still isn't showing up. It used to appear just to the left of "devices" in the preferences tab but not any more. I know the apple tv is seeing my network ok as i can connect onto facebook etc with it. It seems to be the pc cant see the apple tv and visa versa
