Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: How to back up

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Try closing anything you're using in the background. If you double click the home button you'll see the screen move up and the apps line up at the bottom. Scroll all the way to the end of the list. Starting from there, hold down one of the apps (as if it were on the home page and you were going to move it) and just start closing apps. This wont delete them, but it will completely close this. Get in a habit of doing this once a day or so and you're ipod will always be moving cleanly.
