facetime audio feedback

I'm trying to facetime from my iPad to a family member's new iMac. I keep getting audio feedback when I talk. I can hear myself coming back through in a slight delay. It's so difficult to try and talk we end up hanging up the facetime call. She does not hear the feedback which leads me to beleive it's some setting on her iMac. I don't have any problems using facetime with any other person in my family. Anyone have any ideas why this is occuring?

The reason you hear yourself during a FaceTime call is because the person you were FaceTime'ing with had their sound cranked up too loud - which their mic then picks up and sends back to you. The easiest way to eliminate feedback is to have them use headphones to hear you. This breaks the feedback loop and thus, you will no longer hear yourself through your own speakers.

This explains why only you can hear the feedback but they can't.
