Q: Emailing iTunes Gifts?

It seems that the option to email a gift is gone from the iTunes store if accessing from a computer. Quick link takes you out of iTunes to the Apple Store on website with two options - buy physical card or setup allowance. I still see the gift by email option on the bottom of the page in iOS. Anyone have an idea what gives?

 

(I often send gifts to my kids, so this is just an inconvience...)

    Did it used to work Peter?

     

    I only ask because I thought Gifting Apps was only temporary during the holiday season but I could be wrong.

    Yes, I know what you mean! I should have been clearer - I'm talking about send an email gift of a dollar amount, like one would give a gift card, not sending an app or media.

     

    Yes, this was always possible on a Mac and the instructions are still live in the knowledge base, although as I said, are now not doable!  Now it seems to me it's only doable using iOS iTunes Store.

    You're right Peter.

     

    It has changed (probably with iTunes 11). What you need to do is set up an Allowance. How you can do that if it is not a family member I don't know but if it is a family member this would be a preferred solution. Allowance is also a recurring feature and it sounds like you wanted a one-time solution.

     

    Otherwise I guess they are just pimping the cards now.

     

    And you are right, the KB has not been updated for iTunes 11 it appears.
