Q: unpairing remote with apple TV is unsuccesful

When I go into the Settings>General>Remote and select "unpair apple remote" I get the broken chain symbol, BUT my remote still controls the apple TV. I should note that the remote I'm using to unpair, is the current, and only paired remote with my Apple TV. Anyone else experience this problem?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

Unpairing a remote will not stop that remote working with the Apple TV.

The act of pairing a remote with an Apple TV ensures that remote and only that remote will operate that Apple TV. If you want a particular remote to not be able to control your Apple TV, you should pair the Apple TV with another remote.

What exactly are you trying to achieve.

Thanks for clearing things up.  I only have one remote, which I'd like to control my MacBook, and not the Apple TV.  Sound like I'd need another remote to achieve this.  I was hoping just to use my itouch to control the Apple TV via the remote app, and then use the actual remote with just the MacBook.
