Can't create a new calendar

I can't sync my blackberry to iCal on my new Macbook Pro because it tells me there are no writable calendars. Proposed solution is to create a New Calendar "on my mac". Well when I go to File/New Calendar i don't have the "on my mac" option. I only have "icloud". I turned off iCloud to see if that we then let me create a new calendar on my mac, but instead it now doesn't let me create a new calendar at all (and yes I've tried quitting Calendar, rebooting, etc).

Anyone know what the issue is??
