To speed up my 2009 McbookPro I cleared PRAM and SMC. Since clearing both, my top keyboard row (volume, light etc.) of my mac seems only to work correctly if pressing the "fn" button at the same time, otherwise it seems that they suddenly became F1-F10 keys... Thanks for your help!!! Chri100

In Sys Prefs>Keyboard, look for a box that says something like... Use normal function keys... not on an OS tht has that to look see at the moment.
