iphone 4s shows 2 updates in app store, when opening app store icon in bottom says 2 updates but nothing shows to update

You are tapping on the icon showing the number two when in the App Store app?

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

I'm having the same problem with my 4S and I see reports of it happening on the 5, as well. I started with 1 notification (and no corresponding update) this morning and now it's up to 3.

I have 15 updates waiting, have tried different WiFi networks, rebooting, deleting and reinstalling a random app, still no updates actually showing.

I have this problem as well. I have restarted, sync and done everything I can think off.

I wondered about updating the apps through iTunes, so looked on the Apps tab on the sidebar (you have to chose to view the sidebar in iTunes 11) and it showed about 260 updates waiting to be downloaded. I never update this way and had assumed that the apps would be updated in iTunes when they were updated and synced on my iPhone and iPad, but evidently not. It took several hours to download them and I'm now syncing. The number of apps showing as waiting to be updated on the iPhone has gone down from 15 to 4, but it also seems to be updating other things including re-syncing all my music. It also added back an app I had deleted from my iPhone previously so be aware this may happen. I'll keep y'all posted on my progress.

Well, that took hours, it still shows four apps to update, and iTunes shows 60 updates available. Will update those when I don't need to do more music work with iTunes.

Downloaded 60 more updates to iTunes and synced, still have 2 waiting....

I updated to IOS 6.1 and then tried the App Store. It took a long long time but finally 2 apps showed up to be updated. I upadted them and they work. Everything appears fine.

Yes, after another round of downloading and syncing through iTunes, this did it for me as well.
