Running OSX 10.5.8 but cannot boot from Superduper copy on external HD

Running OSX 10.5.8

Followed Superduper instructions , first partitioning a new 1TB external using GUID and extended journaled format, then doing earase and copy all application of superduper.

But when i try to use the external to boot I get error message panic "unable to find drive for this platform\ACPI\...."

Updated all software.

Attempted Carbon Copy before Superduper and was unable to create a bootable external hard drive.

Please help. Thank you in advance~

back up HD is 1TB, data to be backed up 97+GB.

I followed your instructions for formatting and partitioning, and then began the process of backing up the data with DU, then as you know it failed. When I open up the external HD most if not all of the data appears. I do not know if that is from the DU restore, or a failed erase. Your thoughts?

Ok. I erased the volume and then performed a carbon copy clone on the external HD. I then restarted with option key and selected the external HD to boot up. A few minutes later I arrived at the grey apple screen and then received a kernel/panic message. See photo below.

Your suggestions would be much appreciated. User uploaded file

The Leopard copy was on the machine when it was given to me. I am certain it is a valid copy because the computer was part of a huge purchase of Apple computers for the local school system that I teach in.

Mac OS X 10.5.8

MacBook ID- MacBook4, 1

Processor 2.1 Intel Core 2 Duo

1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Anything else I can provide to help solve this problem? Thank you again.

You will need an Installer DVD for Leopard. If you have one then:

Erase and Install

1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.

2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.

3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.

4. Upon completion of formatting quit DU and return to the installer. Follow onscreen instructions to complete the installation of Leopard. Be sure you choose the external drive as the target for the installation.

Now for some strange reason the MacBook will not boot from the install DVD. It was working fine yesterday when we were attempting various fixes for the external hd. I have tried repeatedly to boot from the DVD to no avail. It mounts, it begins to load and gets stuck on the apple/gray screen with the spinning wheel. I can hear the drive spinning and spinning but nothing. Suggestions?

My goal when I began this project was to backup everything on the MacBook to an external hard drive. Then I would erase the MacBook and be prepared to turn it back in to the school district where I work. I have had it for several years and it has lots of photos, music and personal information that I wanted to remove before giving it back. What could you suggest at this point? I have back up, it's not bootable, but all the information is there. I am fed up with this. Thank you for your help.
