how do I change my apple ID under my iCloud preferences in my IPhone Settings? It has an old apple ID that has been used and it won't let me update it. I've updated it under itunes and apps, but it won't let me under iCloud.

delete the old one and then put the new one in. you can also change your appleid in settings-->itunes & App Stores
I have changed my apple id in my itunes and apps, but I can't with the i cloud. If I do delete the account will I lose all of my pictures, contacts, music, etc?
The icloud is just a backup. Your contacts and music and apps are on your phone. You won't lose it by deleting your old cloud account. you might have to start a new photostream, but you won't lose the data on your phone. If you subscribe to iTunes Match, that data is linked to your store appleID (which you already changed).
Deleting the account will delete the account and any synced data from your phone but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing to a different account, you data will be synced back to your phone when you sign back in.
However, photo stream photos are only retained in photo stream for 30 days. After that they are deleted from photo stream but will remain on your phone. If you delete the account, then sign back in, only photos from the last 30 days will be restored to the phone as the rest are no longer in photo stream. If you have photos in photo stream older than 30 days that are not in your camera roll or backed up somewhere else, save them your camera roll before deleting the account. To do this, open the My Photo Stream album on your phone, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll. You can then delete the account without risking losing your photos.
So, regardless if I delete the account, none of my pictures which are on my camera roll will be deleted? I'm wondering if I should sync the information I have on my iphone to my mac first before deleting the account, just to be safe.
Deleting the account won't touch the camera roll, but you should still regularly import your photos (and videos) to your computer as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083. (Importing photos is not done by syncing.)

If you have the same apple ID linked to all apple devices and you delete the account on one device to change it to a different ID will you lose it all on the other devices?
No, deleting the account only deletes if from the device, not from iCloud. Other devices won't be effected by this.

i cant delete the wrong id because asks for the password. the password relates to the correct id which i can't put in. so i cant change or delete it any ideas?
very annoyed so have have spend 2 hours messing and googling with no joy?
i have the same problem, and i cant change my apple id back to my old email address as its no longer in use and i wouldnt be able to verify the account! its very frustrating, it appears to be a problem with the find my phone! it requires a password to turn it off so in turn you can delete the account. there must be a way round this surely
