Mouse disappears when connected to a projector

I can't figure this out. Macbook Pro w/ Retina, Mac OS X 10.8.2

Everytime I connect the dongle for the projector the mouse disappears. It hovers over the items on the dock, but I can't do too much else. I can open System Preferences before I plug in the dongle and go to Displays to mirror the projector with the laptop, but once plugged in, I don't have any functions.

I've checked the trackpad settings as well as keyboard & mouse settings. Not sure what else to look for? Could it be the dongle that needs to be replaced or is there some sort of setting that I can look at to fix it?

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Same thing is happening to me

MacBook Pro

Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012

Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i

Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 768 MB

Software OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

I plug it into a project with HDMI that is built in or the RBG Adaptor dongle the screen works but the mouse totally disapears the computer still thinks it is there but it isn't. I don't understand how Apple doesn't have any kind of a fix for this yet it is really crazy.
