Stolen iPod Touch

Hello,

My Apply iPod Touch with serial 1A018MM86K2 was stolen. What can I do to block it?

How can I inform Apple that this device with that serial number is stolen (providing proof of purchase and police report)?

Will Apple prevent using this stolen equipment by someone else, e.g. by blocking connection to iTunes?

Thank you,

iPod touch (3rd generation), iOS 5.1.1

"What can I do to block it?"

Nothing.

"How can I inform Apple that this device with that serial number is stolen (providing proof of purchase and police report)?"

You cannot. Like any maker, Apple can do nothing at all.

"Will Apple prevent using this stolen equipment by someone else, e.g. by blocking connection to iTunes?"

Sorry

Report it to the polcie and change your passwords.

Well, of course Apple could block. Like providers can block stolen mobile phones based on the IMEI number, Apple could well block stolen Apple devices in iTunes based on their serial number, if proofed to be stolen devices.

That this will create an administrative overhead, yes.

That this would be at least one advantage of vendor locking, also yes.

So now customers are in a loose-loose situation. They are subject to vendor locking, but if the device is lost, than vendor locking does not apply any longer for the profit of Apple.
