Upgraded to Snow Leopard and now I can't print using ethernet.

Was using OS10.5.8 and had no problem printing. Upgraded to 10.6.8. Tried connecting using a USB adapter to J45 and changing preferences under "fax and print." Tried everything I can think to do but still can't make the connection between MacPro and Xante printer. Downloaded new PPD but still can't make connection. Should I keep ethernet and try to connect using IP connection? Use USB or no?

Please help.

According to Nework preferences, I'm connected via Ethernet 2 using DHCP. I have an IP address, Subnet Mask, and router address. Non of these addresses is my printer address that I use in the "Print and Fax" preferences. Correct?

Thanks for your help but I'm still unable to connect to printer. Tried reseting permissions, rebooting, ethernet 2 connection is green in Network using DHCP, have latest drivers, printer is turned on. Can you think of anything else? Do you want o see some screen shots?

Will do but one thing I noticed. You said select my printer from the list. What list? Under Print Using: I select Other then select the drivers under Library, Printers, PPDs/ Contents, Resources, en.lproj, Accel-a-writer (drivers). This is where the drivers reside.

IF under Print Using: Select Printer Software, I don't see my printer listed. Is this where the Gutenprint v5.2.9 should be? I see Gutenprint but it always follows another printer name, like Brother CPD xxxx Gutenprint v5.2.9. My printer is not listed. Can I get my print drivers in this list? How does the Gutenprint v 5.2.9 work?

No, I don't have a Brother printer. I was giving you an example. Many printers in that list have Gutenprint after the name. How can I get my printer in that list? Xante, Accel-a-writer 8300. I can access it through "Other" but not through "Select Pinter Software..." When I select through "Other" there is no Gutenprint.

Sorry for not being clearer.

Appreciate your help but I'm beginning to regret upgrading to Snow Leopard...

I did everything you suggested. I upgraded to the new system 10.6.8.1.1. Rebooted with the shift key down. Reloaded Gutenprint. My xante printer is still not listed under "Select Printer Software. I selected xante drivers under "Other"...

Deleted the last printer from preferences. Added the last iteration of drivers. Still unable to connect.

One thing I noticed is in the preference panel the Xante has a green light when first add but when I go to actually print, that green light turns to yellow. Then I know I will get the dreaded "cannot connect to print, will try again in 30 seconds"

Any other possibilities?

I will try to see what I can get through Retrevo. Xante printers are usually used in print shops with Windows. Xante doesn't like bothering with Macs but their tech support has been trying to help me, too.

First go to system preferences>print queue and make sure that there are not an jobs on hold or in the queue. If there are delete them. Try downloading the latest drivers for your OSX and install them. Delete the problem printer, highlight it and hit the minus button. Press the + button and select your printer from the list. Set it up via ethernet, and if it works then set it up for IP, use the connection doctor and follow the prompts. ATB

Thanks for your response.

I have tried this but cannot connect. Cannot find "Connection Doctor." Tried to ping using Network Utility.

Go to system preferences>network (this will need to unlocked/admin) select from the left column ethernet, location dropdown=automatic, network name>assist me (this is the connection Doctor) follow the prompts. (You can also do this wireless by selecting airport as oposed to ethernet) ethernet is much more secure. Look for green lights on each pane on the left., red means something is not set right. Unless you are you using a server, you should be able to connect. Connect to the internet first, then deal with the printer.

Upgraded to Snow Leopard and now I can't print using ethernet.
