Publishing changes to my website

Yesterday I made some changes to my website and thought I had published the changes. But looking today, I see the changes aren't there.

The changes are reflected in iWeb, but when I tried to republish I found the that "Publish Site Changes" is not illuminated.

Suggestions? (It's been at least a year since I made any changes to the site, and I may simply have forgotten how.)

The Publish Site Changes will not now be illumintated because that was part of MobileMe and MobileMe was discontinued at the end of June last year, so no longer.

You don't say which version of iWeb you are using? Is it iWeb 08 or 09, because you need to use different publishing methods for both.

If using iWeb 09, then this produces an assets file that needs to be uploaded and will only publish changes when you publish. Your publishing options from the iWeb internal publishing now are publish to ftp or a local folder, now that the MobileMe option is no longer.

You could also try emptying your browser cache - this one reason why changes might show up in iWeb but not in your published site.

Thanks Ethmoid. Clearing my cache appears to have done the trick. (I'm not certain whether I'm using iWeb 08 or 09, but when I click on "About iWeb" I'm told I'm using version 3.0.4 (601).

The other problem I'm having is in trying to cut and paste a new nav bar for several pages on the site. Can you remind me of how to do that?

Thanks much.

I think the problem may have to do with the way I constructed the nav bar. I started with a nav bar that includes several thumbnails, then dragged another image into it. But what I'm noticing is that the image I dragged in has a frame around it, while the other images don't have frames.

I sarted thinking that I am supposed to use a "right click" (control/click) to import an image into an existing page, but that didn't seem to work either. Does this suggest a solution?

You can see the tool bar I'm trying to copy here (the one on the right of the page, under "Sample Issues"):

file:///Users/fran/Desktop/Shig%20Site%20Copy/Shig_Project/SR_Sampler.html

I want to add the last thumbnail (Shig's Review #35 & 64) to all of the pages that show sample issues, but when I copy it from this page and paste it into the other pages, the Shig's Review #34 & 65 thumbnail disappears (?)

I know about that, and that's not the issue. Is there a way I can share the template for the nav bar with you so you can look at it?

I want to paste it into several pages that have an existing nav bar, but add one more thumbnail to what's already there. When I try to do so, I end up pasting in the version without the additonal thumbnail.

Meanwhile, the problem I had earlier seems to have resurfaced. After I cleaned out the catch on Firefox, I was able to publish some of the changes I made last week. But I've since made several more changes and, again, I can't publish the changes.

Please ignore the final post here ("I know about that. . . .") I thought I had deleted it, but it seems to have posted. I think I've got all the issues worked out except for the one described in the post that begins with, "You can see the tool bar. . . ." Thanks so much for all your help, Old Toad. I never could have done this without you.

The URL of the site is www.shigmurao.org

You can view the page with the toolbar I'm trying to copy here:

file:///Users/fran/Desktop/Shig%20Site%20Copy/Shig_Project/SR_Sampler.html

(I'm not sure exactly what this URL is, as it has characters at the beginning that don't show up when I load shigmurao.org, but somewhere along my experimentation I came upon it and copied it.) The problem is that when I try to copy the tool bar on the right of the page, the bottom thumbnail for Shig's Review #35 & 64 doesn't appear:

But now I'm back to the earlier problem of publishing changes to the site. After I emptied the catch on Firefox a cople of weeks ago, I successfully published some changes, and since then I have again successfully published other changes. But when I look now, none of the changes I have made in the past few weeks is there??? All I can figure is that the changes take but then are errased when I attempt a new update.

It is pubished The URL of the site is www.shigmurao.org. What I'm trying to do is publish updates.

I just tried empthing the cache again, thinking that perhaps I had to do so immediately before publishing the changes I've made to the site, but "Publish Site Changes" still doesn't illuminate.

This is so strange, because on a couple of occasions over the past few weeks I was able to publish changes, but the changes subsequently disappeared, probably after I tried, unsuccessfuly, to publish more changes.

Wait: New Information.

I just made another change to one of the pages and noticed that the "Publish Site Changes" button was illuminated again. So I clicked on it and got a message saying the changes had been published plus a button that says "Visit Site Now." When I click on that button, all of my changes are there, but what I now realize is that the button does not take me to the main site, but to a page on my own computer.

The URL of the page I was just taken to looks like this:

file:///Users/fran/Desktop/ShigSiteCopy/Shig_Project/Home_Page.html

The URL for the same page on the actual page looks like this:

http://www.shigmurao.org/Shig_Project/Home_Page.html

So it appears I was mistaken in my last post, where I said changes had appeared and then disappeared.

Hope this makes sense.
