I Have mac os x 10.5 and have the install disc for mac os x 10.6 but when i click to install it says it can't be installed to this computer...WHY!? I want to eventually update to mountain lion but i know i can't update until i'm least at a 10.6.

I want to eventually update to mountain lion but i know i can't update until i'm least at a 10.6.... i got a new ipod for christmas and can't use it....very frustrating!! HELP PLEASE.
