Q: How can I archive my time capsule disk
I have plugged in USB 2 external hard drive to my time capsule to try and create an archive (to store offsite) of my time capsule disk. This disk is recognised within airport but I only get the "erase" option, rather than the "archive" option.
I'm using the latest version of airport, time capsule and on a macbook Pro.
any suggestions on how to copy the time capsule onto an external disk greatly appreciated !

If you are still using Mac OS X 10.7.5 as your profile indicates, the good news is that you can download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion and keep both AirPort Utility 5.6 and 6.1 on your Mac and use the one that you want.
AirPort Utility 5.6 will give you back the Archive option that AirPort Utility 6.1 dropped, along with many other useful features.
If you have moved up to Mountain Lion, you can still install AirPort Utility 5.6, but it will take a few workarounds. See this article for details:

If you have not used the Archive function before, allow plenty of time, because it will take a very long time for this process to complete.
